Experts and government
officials associated with
the country's insurance
sector urged the
Rastriya Beema Sansthan (RBS),
the country's oldest
insurance institution, to
reinvent itself in light of
increased competition from
private companies. During a
program organized to mark
its 40th anniversary,
various speakers spoke on
the challenges and problems
faced by the corporation.
“We have around 190,000
policyholders while the same
figure for newer private
companies has crossed
300,000,” said Kancha Thapa,
representing insurance
agents of RBS. Lack of
resolute marketing effort
was costing RBS dearly and
the management should
rectify this shortcoming, he
added. Other speakers called
for more autonomy, newer
type of insurance policies,
better recruiting policy and
human resource management to
face the strong competition.
Replying to accusations of
rigid and unfriendly
policies, Insurance Board's
Chairman Madhav Prasad
Upadhyaya said that the
board was open to new
policies if they provided
more security.
