News item 26-8-2007 |
Ministry of Labor (MoL) has
forwarded a comprehensive
foreign employment insurance
scheme to Ministry of
Finance (MoF) for its
approval. According to a
government official, the
proposal prepared by
state-owned Insurer
Rastriya Beema Sansthan
(RBS) proposed premium rates
to the Department of Labor
and Employment Promotion (DoLEP)
to insure overseas job
aspirants. DoLEP sent the
proposal to MoL couple of
weeks ago for approval.
Murari Gautam, chief manager
of RBS said the insurer has
proposed premium rates of Rs
1,260, Rs 2,400 and 3,250
for the first year, second
year and third year
respectively. RBS is
co-coordinating with 19
insurance companies and
dealing with the government
in this regard, Gautam said.
"Once the proposal is
approved, RBS will sign a
contract with the government
on behalf of all the
insurance companies," Gautam
said. All companies will be
liable to pay the
compensation amount
proportionately, he added.
Uddhav Baskota, spokesperson
of MoL, said the ministry
has sought MoF's consent on
the proposed premium rate.
"Once MoF agrees on the
proposed rates, we will
proceed further to sign a
final agreement," Baskota
told the Post. A source at
MoLTM said the ministry has
also requested MoF to exempt
Value Added Tax (VAT) on the
insurance policy. However,
manpower companies are
proposing different rates,
slightly lower than those
proposed by RBS. According
to a source, the companies
rated the premium at Rs
1,260, Rs 2,200 and Rs 3,000
for the first year, second
year and third year,
respectively.
