Minister for Finance Dr. Ram
Sharan Mahat addressed the
Second SAARC Business
Leaders Conclave held in
Mumbai on the theme of
'Regional Development and
Employment Generation:
Creating an Enabling Policy
Environment in South Asia'
on Saturday. In the
Conclave, he stressed to
make efforts in improving
environment for investment,
in making investment in
infrastructures, in
integrating regional trade
and in strengthening
financial Acts to alleviate
poverty significantly and to
gain higher economic growth.
The also drew the attention
of the Conclave to make
efforts in containing
corruption to improve
environment for investment,
in making justice system
transparent and effective,
in improving Act,
Regulations in order to
flourish competitiveness, in
controlling delay in
procedures of bureaucracy,
and in making labour market
flexible. He said in order
to create employment in
South Asia skill and
educational programme should
be made consistent to meet
the demand of labour market,
micro-finance should be
implemented, laws relating
to labour should be
flexible, agriculture should
be mechanised and
information system should be
developed for labour market.
Minister for Finance Dr.
Mahat drew attention of
participants of the conclave
towards proper utilisation
of water resources of Nepal
stating the possibilities of
cooperation in the energy
sector, huge water resources
of Nepal and its prospective
contribution to meet
increasing demand of energy
in the region. He
highlighted the plans to
make special efforts in
order to achieve higher
economic growth in future to
increase employment
opportunities and to attract
foreign investment to
alleviate poverty.
