Development Credit Bank
Limited (DCBL), one of the
leading category 'B'
development banks of the
country, has reported net
profit of Rs 32.5 million in
the first half of the
current fiscal year, an
increment of 25 percent
compared to that of the
similar period of 2005/06.
Sudhir Babu Khatri, CEO and
president of DCBL attributed
the 'impressive
performance' to strong
growth in its banking
revenue and business
diversification. "In the
first six months of 2006/07,
the bank issued loans of Rs
2.14 billion compared to Rs
1.75 billion of the same
period last year.
Similarly, it mobilized
deposits of Rs 2.4 billion
compared to Rs 1.9 billion
of the similar period last
fiscal year," he told the
Post. Entry into foreign
exchange and
remittance business
helped the bank to generate
additional revenue, he
added. "Ever since
Nepal Rastra bank
allowed us to conduct
foreign exchange transaction
and remittance business
earlier this year, we have
introduced a range of
attractive services that
ensure greater benefits to
customers," Khatri said.
DCBL is currently issuing
traveler's check without
taking any commission. It
has also introduced
lucrative consumer schemes,
under which customers are
granted
loans
at zero percent interest
rates.
